McNally Smith College of Music, founded in 1985, prepares students for professional work in the music industry. Students can study music business, music composition and songwriting, audio recording, production and live sound, or popular music performance with the guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, voice, or brass and woodwinds.

There are about 500 students and 80 faculty members at McNally Smith College of Music. Students may pursue degrees that include: Bachelor of Music in Music Performance; Bachelor of Arts in Music; Bachelor of Music in Composition; Associate of Applied Science in Music Performance; Associate of Applied Science in Recording Technology; Associate of Applied Science in Music Production; Associate of Applied Science in Music business; and Associate of Fine Arts in Music Performance.

Diplomas are also awarded for study in McNally Smith's Music Performance course; Recording Engineer Course or Music business Course.

Graduates of the Minnesota music college have found careers in every facet of the industry, including record labels, recording studios, artist management firms, radio stations, and booking agencies.

  • McNally Smith students come from every region of the United States, however more than 50 percent of students are residents of the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, and Iowa.

  • Students planning to major in recording technology or music production will need to complete a technology evaluation as part of the application process.

  • Students at McNally Smith College of Music enrolled in voice will need to take two semesters of diction and two semesters of a foreign language.
