Based in the California town of the same name, Merced College offers
associate degree and
certificate programs of study in 11 different areas. Students will have their choice of 81 degree and diploma programs that range from sociology to sonography. Merced College also offers specialized technical programs of study in areas such as Toyota T-Ten
automotive technology. The school maintains particularly strong programs in agriculture and equestrian studies. Programs in this area run the gamut from horseshoeing to diesel equipment technology. The school also operates an extensive non-credited continuing education program for older adult learners. In addition, Merced College operates specialized support programs for younger students including the Independent Living Program for current and former foster care students.
Academically gifted students are encouraged to apply for the school's Honors Program. Honors Program students receive access to advanced seminars, smaller classes, specialized academic advising, Honors-only cultural events, and scholarship opportunities.
Merced College supports a lively campus environment for students. The school sponsors several social and cultural events on campus each year including an annual homecoming celebration and spring carnival. Merced College is also home to 18 student-run clubs and organizations that range from professional associations to personal interest clubs such as the Anime Club or the Video Game Club. Merced is one of the few community colleges throughout the nation that's home to a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society for two-year college students. Twelve athletic teams reside on Merced College's campus as well.
To help students succeed, the school also offers a number of support resources including free tutoring,
online support, personal counseling, financial aid counseling, academic advising, and support services for veterans and disabled students. Additional support services include English as a Second Language classes, research help, access to a free math lab, transfer assistance, job search help, and a child development center on campus for students who are also parents.
