Mercyhurst is a four-year,
Catholic College founded by the Sisters of Mercy in
Erie, Pennsylvania. The Erie campus offers more than 50 undergraduate majors with over 60 concentrations and six graduate programs. Mercyhurst also has two other campuses. The North East campus is 20 minutes from Erie and has one-and two-year programs available in a variety of areas. In fall 2006, its third campus, Mercyhurst West, opened in neighboring Girard,
Pennsylvania.
This year, in the
U.S. News and World Report of "America's Best Colleges," Mercyhurst is ranked top tier in the "new" category, and moved into "Best Universities-Master's" as a top tier college among a grouping of 574 institutions.

Mercyhurst's Erie campus has an enrollment of more than 3,200 students. In the 2007-2008 school year, 774 first year students hailed from 28 states and 15 countries. This total is a combination of 677 freshman and 97 transfer students.

The Mercyhurst Erie campus' Hammermill Library has more than 100,000 volumes, 11,000 audio video materials, 450 paper serial subscriptions, web-based systems for accessing online serials and the public access catalog, 105 public workstations, 4 listening stations, video viewing station, interlibrary loan system, and is an EZ borrow member of Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium.
The students of Mercyhurst can participate in intercollegiate sports of basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, rowing, ice hockey, lacrosse, football, wrestling, and water polo for men and basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, rowing, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, and water polo for women. The college has athletic conference affiliation with NCAA Division II and Division I in men's and women's ice hockey.
The Princeton Review named Mercyhurst one of "The Best Northeastern Colleges" in one of five Princeton Review regional guidebooks.
Mercyhurst College is the second largest of the four-year Mercy colleges in the country.
In 2007, Mercyhurst was one of more than 40 organizations to receive a gift from an anonymous donor who pledged $85 million to non-profits in Erie. The funds will be distributed through the Erie Community Foundation over a three-year period. The restricted part of the grant will be an addition to the school's endowment and endowed scholarships.
Mercyhurst has made a voluntary contribution of a $500,000, over a three year period, to the city of Erie. This contribution will help the city with its fiscal needs.
