With approximately 1,700 full-time students on-campus, Mesabi community college is a hub of intellectual activity. The campus supports courses in more than 65 areas of study and provides both associate degree and professional diploma programs to students from across the state. Most Mesabi Community College student opt for a liberal arts program of study. The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum ensures that students who complete an associate degree on Mesabi Community College campus will be guaranteed admittance into a state four-year institution. Liberal arts students have a wide breadth of majors to choose from including Theatre, Philosophy, Chemistry, and Journalism. On the technical side, Mesabi Community College also offers 30+ career-oriented diploma programs that range from Social Work to Masonry to Emergency Medical Tech training. While some of these programs require two years of study, many are shorter, requiring one year of coursework or less.

Mesabi Community College students are involved on their campus. The school supports seven varsity and club-level sports teams, a student senate on both the Virginia and Eveleth campuses, and a variety of clubs, organizations, and performing arts groups. You'll also find a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society for community college students, and a Student Life Committee that's in charge of planning campus-wide cultural and social events including the annual Homecoming celebration. Mesabi Community College also furnishes a number of support programs to help its students succeed. Mesabi Community College students will have academic advising, personal counseling, tutoring, and minority support services at their fingertips. All incoming students pursuing a liberal arts degree are required to take a college transition course to help prepare them for the academic and social challenges of college.

In addition to offering workforce readiness programs of study, Mesabi Community College also offers non-credited enrichment courses and camps for the community. Each summer, the school sponsors a Science Technology engineering and Mathematics (STEM) camp for middle school students. The school also sponsors an annual 5K run to benefit the Quad Cities Food Shelf.
