Metropolitan Community College - Blue River is a campus that is part of the Metropolitan community college system. It's a combination of the Blue Springs and Independence campuses. In 1997, the Board of Trustees announced the addition of the Metropolitan Community College - Blue River campus. This would be another campus to Metropolitan Community College, which already had three other campuses: Longview in Lee's Summit, Maple Woods in the Northland, and Penn Valley. The new campus of this Missouri Community College was officially constructed in Fall 2004.

Initially, the Metropolitan Community College - Blue River campus had only about 34 students in the days of the early group of education pioneers. Today, you'll find about 2,800 students studying at this Missouri community college each semester. Metropolitan Community College-Blue River recognizes the hard work and commitment of these pioneers who are creating a new learning community.

Metropolitan Community College-Blue River has an open door admission policy, accepting everyone who makes application. The College Relations team participates in many recruiting activities such as college fairs and high school visits. The College Relations office works with the registrar to help facilitate new student enrollment. Metropolitan Community College-Blue River attracts over 2,800 students each semester. Traditional, nontraditional, home schooled and dual credit students make up the diverse population at Blue River.
