Michigan Technological University was established in 1885 as a result of the mining boom, for Michigan copper, in the United States. In the beginning, Michigan Tech trained mining and metallurgical engineers. Today, students attend the university to pursue certificates, associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in the disciplines of arts, humanities, social sciences, business and economics, computing, engineering, forestry and environmental science, sciences, and technology.

Michigan Tech has received worldwide recognition for its innovative education, a mentoring faculty, academic programs that blend hands-on experience with classroom learning, and the student's ability to explore and discover knowledge on diverse subjects.
