Midwives College of Utah
1174 East 2700 Street Suite 8
Salt Lake City, Utah
Founded in 1980, the Midwives College of Utah offers an Associate of Science in
midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, and Master of Science in Midwifery degrees for students interested in the profession of midwifery. MCU also offers certifications for Certified Traditional Midwifes and Certified Master Midwife. The college seeks to provide a wide base of education that goes beyond vocational training to build professional skills. A Distance Education program is also offered through MCU that combines
distance learning with clinical work with midwives in each student's particular areas. Since 1996, MCU has maintained accreditation with the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), is accepted by the California Medical Board as an approved educational route toward California licensure, and is registered under the Utah postsecondary proprietary school act.
The curriculum includes courses in body systems, herbology, nutrition and other holistic modalities in order to expand each student's resources for assisting clients. Study also includes entrepreneurial
business and life development courses to optimize personal and professional success. The MCU curriculum adheres to guidelines set in the MANA Core Competencies and the NARM Practical Skills requirements with the focus of preparing students to pass the NARM exam and to qualify for NARM certification. Degrees take 3-6 years with clinical experience required while certificates take 1-2 years. Requirements differ depending on the level desired.
The administration and faculty of MCU serve on national and state committees and boards. They believe that excellent core midwifery training must be balanced with entrepreneurial
business and life development-balance skills so that each midwife gains a holistic education. The Midwives College of Utah is a Christian School with no specific denomination or doctrine, just an acknowledgment of spiritual guidance and the belief in Jesus Christ and the Father in Heaven.
