Minot State University is located in Minot, North Dakota and was established in 1913, to serve the residents in the state's northwestern region. From its beginning as a normal school, the university has evolved into a Carnegie Masters I Institution. Minot State University is the third largest institution of higher learning in North Dakota and the only non-doctoral university granting master's degrees.
Minot State University offers a mixture of
liberal arts and professional programs with more than 60 undergraduate majors. The university confers bachelor's degrees, nine master's degrees and one educational specialist degree in areas, including communication disorders, management, and mathematics, through its three colleges of Arts and Sciences,
business, and Education and Health Sciences.
The university is a member of the
North Dakota University System, a system that consists of 11 institutions of doctoral, master's, baccalaureate, and community colleges.

The university's men's cross country team were NAIA National Champions in 2002 and 2003. DAC-10 Champion in men's basketball and women's cross country in 2004-2005, men's golf and softball (tourney) 2003-2004, men's cross country, men's golf, football and baseball (tourney) and men's golf in 2001-2002.
