Founded in 1884 as the first public college for women, Mississippi university for Women (MUW) in the historic downtown of Columbus, Mississippi, is affectionately known as "The W." Though rich in tradition, this institution has also educated men for more than 20 years.

A Public university with the feel of a private college, MUW is a scenic, 114-acre campus with 23 of its more than 60 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
