On September 14, 1938, a group of New London, Connecticut citizens founded New London junior college as a private, nonprofit, coeducational, Two-Year College in their community. Mitchell is a coeducational, residential college offering both associates and bachelors degree. New London, CT campus is a suburban, residential, waterfront campus situated on the Connecticut shoreline, one hour to Hartford and two hours to both Boston and New York City. The campus is 65 acres that include two beaches, athletic fields, a pond and wooded trails (Mitchell Woods). About 85 percent of Mitchell's students reside on campus in 7 residence halls (3 traditional-style dormitories and 4 waterfront Victorian houses). Over 80 percent of all students receive some form of need based and/or merit based (academic, athletic & leadership) aid. Average class size is between 12-18 students; student to teacher ratio is 12:1.
