Founded in 1995 in Grand Junction Colorado, the MJM Institute of Cosmetology offers full-service cosmetology programs approved by the Colorado Department of Education, Division of Private Occupational Schools. Programs include Barbering, cosmetology, Esthetician, Hairstyling and Nail Technician as well as training courses and certifications.

Theory classes are combined with a practical portion of the education programs and lab experience The major practical portion takes place in the salon area where students perfect their skills working with real clients. The salon services are offered at reasonable prices to the public through the Institute's salon. Classes start the first of Wednesday of every month and are held Monday through Friday.

The staff at the MJM Institute of cosmetology believes in the importance of exposing students to many different and varied product lines in order to learn to be an effective professional. cosmetology students use products such as Redken, Rusk, Nioxin including ISO, nail students use products like OPI, Soft Touch, Backscratchers, Creative Nail, and Elegant Glass, and esthetician students use Eva skin care products.

The Institute assists graduates in job placement after they successfully complete the State Licensure exam. The school posts current job openings on the bulletin board in the student lounge and conducts several franchise salons classes in the school so that students gain further education on the area job market.

MJM's lab and technical equipment includes 15 styling chairs, 4 sinks, 6 dryers, 15 dry stations, 6 shampoo chairs, 6 customer chairs, and 4 manicure stations.

MJM is named in honor of the father of Director Deanna Siess, Melvin Joseph Miller, to pay tribute to his ongoing support of her dream of becoming a cosmetologist.
