Moorpark, California
The
Moorpark College photography Program offers a visual arts program that is focused on the student and provides a technical foundation along with a rich aesthetic experience. The photography program operates under Moorpark College (MC), a public
community college established in 1963 and open to any
high school graduate or any capable adult seeking educational opportunities. MC is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and part of the
California Community College system of 107 community colleges. Two semesters, Fall and Spring, are offered throughout the year and MC offers a summer session as well.
The program is designed so that students are prepared to enter the competitive field of photography. Students are instruction in both black and white and color photography, along with mastery of the latest equipment. The focus is not on one single type of photography and covers fine art, documentary, and commercial photography. They explore the technical, creative, and expressive side of photography while learning about it as a tool of communication. Classes are combined with labwork and theory.
Students can earn a certificate of achievement and/or an Associate in Science Degree with a major in Photography or Photojournalism after completion of 27 specific units and Moorpark College's general education degree requirements. Coursework includes history of art, beginning, intermediate, and advanced photography, digital and electronic photography, design, and basic photojournalism.
