Mount Angel
seminary was established in 1889, as Mount Angel College, by Benedictine monks. Two years later, Archbishop William Gross asked them to establish a seminary in conjunction with Mount Angel College. The College became more specialized by providing young men
education for the Roman Catholic priesthood.
Today, Mount Angel Seminary primarily focuses on the education of future priest but is open to non-seminarians, wanting educational preparation in other areas of ministry in the Church. Mount Angel offers Bachelor of Arts in philosophy with an option of double majoring. Degrees are also available in pre-theology, graduate theology, theological education for non-resident students and an intensive English program.

Mount Angel's seminary formation program aids students in consideration and preparation of ordained ministry by assisting student's growth and providing an assessment to the student's diocese.
The seminary is on a hill known as Tapalamaho, on the edge of Willamette Valley.
The Benet Hill is where year-round private retreats take place. Mount Abbey retreats include Mount Angel Summer Conference, Benedictine Spirituality Retreats, women's retreats, and mother and teenage daughter retreats. The facility is also used for faculty in-service days and meetings as well as a place for seminarian family and friends to stay while visiting.
St. Joseph Crypt Chapel is the site of seminary liturgies with Monday through Friday morning Eucharist and Evening Prayer.
St. Anselm Chapel and St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel are located in the residence halls and are used by students seeking to pray privately or in small groups.
Mount Angel Abbey Library was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and is home to more than 260,000 volumes and 600 periodicals. The collection contains the Benedictine history of learning, and is utilized as a tool for enriching intellectual and spiritual life.
Mount Angel Seminary's Damian Center has athletic facilities including a basketball court, racquetball court, sauna, lockers, and weight rooms.
The Benedictine Press offers print and design, copy center, and mailing services.
Mount Angel Seminary has met the needs of religious communities throughout the United States, Canada and areas in the Pacific for more than 100 years.
The School of Theology is co-educational and admits those who are qualified and interested in a theological education.
