Mount Vernon Nazarene University is a co-educational, liberal arts university, established in 1968 by the Church of the Nazarene, serving those in the east central region. The university has a solid Evangelical Christian foundation in its educational approach, and offers liberal arts, professional, and graduate studies at its main campus as well as its multiple regional campuses.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University students can pursue an assortment of study areas through its six academic schools, which include Arts and Humanities, business, Education and Professional Studies, Natural and Social Sciences, nursing and health Sciences, and Theology and Philosophy. The university confers associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees.
