Founded in 1995 as the first established
massage therapy school in West Virginia, Mountain State School of Massage offers educational programs and
Associate Degrees in bodywork and
massage therapy. The school started with a day program before starting a weekend program in 1998 followed by a night program in 2005. Mountain State School of Massage is accredited by the Commission On
massage therapy Accreditation (COMTA) and approved by the National Certification Board of
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
The school offers a curriculum through day, night, and weekend programs that provide students with focused, comprehensive and progressive study of specialized bodywork techniques. Students are taught through individual instruction with a focus on developing each individual's professional skills, personal health, inner peace and harmony. Continuing education programs are offered as well.
The facilities in Charleston occupy over 5,000 square feet which hold practicum and exercise areas, student clinic treatment rooms, a library, offices and instructor-student meeting rooms, a dining area, and a massage supplies and Wellness Store. MSSM students operate a student clinic where students perform service under the supervision of instructors. The clinic offers reduced rate massage and bodywork sessions to the general public and allows students the opportunity to work with clients in a hands-on environment.

MSSM has graduated two Massage Therapist Day Program classes every year since its inception.
The school's programs are West Virginia's most long-standing COMTA-accredited massage therapy training programs.
