The Myotherapy Institute of Massage is a distance education program for aspiring massage therapists with the base office being located in
Salt Lake City, Utah. The Myotherapy Institute of Massage is dedicated to providing quality
distance learning to those interested in becoming massage therapists by allowing them to study at home while continuing with their current jobs and lives. Distance learning for future massage therapists is not approved in every state and those interested in this program should first check their state's requirements for
massage therapy.
The term myotherapy means muscle therapy and it is the use of that type of therapy in which the Myotherapy Institute of Massage was founded. The Myotherapy Institute of Utah was founded over two decades ago. In 2000, the name was changed to the Myotherapy Institute of Massage. An average of 250 students per year enroll in the Myotherapy Institute of Massage's program. The
online distance education program consists of 420 hours of study that includes: beginning
massage therapy; anatomy and physiology; stress/strain syndromes; psychology for massage therapists; acu-therapy; hydrotherapy; psycho/soma experience; functional anatomy; polarity therapy and practice building. Students are also required to complete 300 hours of hands on training, which may be accomplished through a quarterly seminar program or a monthly seminar program - both held on campus in Utah; or, through a local training program in which the student locates a licensed and qualified local therapist in which to oversee their hands on training.
The programs are customized based on the student's state board exams, from 200 to 1,000 hours. Graduates of the program are eligible to test for the National Certification Board of
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork exam. All students taking courses through the Myotherapy Institute of Massage must carry student liability insurance. Students must also complete a First Aid/CPR training program locally.
