National College of Natural Medicine

049 SW Porter St.
Portland, Ore. 97201

National College of Natural Medicine is the oldest naturopathic medical college in the United States. The college was founded in the early 1950's as a result of the termination of the naturopathic program at Western States Chiropractic College. The college embraces the wisdom of healing from many cultures and honors the principles that guide naturopathic care: the healing power of nature, treat the whole person, first do no harm, identify and treat the cause, prevention is the best cure, and doctor as teacher.

National College of Natural Medicine offers degree programs through The Naturopathic School and Classical Chinese medical school. The Naturopathic College's Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program requires four years of study, trains holistic primary care physicians, and prepares graduates for board examinations in states and provinces that license Naturopathic physicians. The Classical Chinese Medicine School confers Master of Science in oriental medicine degrees, which requires four years of study. Students are eligible to apply for acupuncture licensure in Oregon, and can take the herb and acupuncture exams. Students enrolled concurrently in both programs complete six years of study with the Naturopathic coursework being transferred to the Master of Oriental Medicine.
