National Labor College was established with the vision of George Meany, who felt that labor union activists should have their own college. The college provides continuous education to all union activists, on its picturesque 47 acre campus in Silver Spring, Maryland. Courses at the National Labor College give students the necessary skills to build their respective unions. The classes can also place students on the road to completing their bachelor's degrees.
National Labor College offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Technical/Professional Studies as well as Masters in Public Administration and Legal and Ethical Studies through the University of Baltimore on the National Labor College campus. During the 2006-2007 academic school year, the college held more than 70 courses in the areas of arbitration, organizing, negotiations, safety and health, union building, and leadership development. National Labor college also confers specialized certificates.

The college and universities include Ciprani College of Labor and Cooperative Studies in Trinidad and Tobago, Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Florida International University, Harvard Trade Union Program, Michigan State University's School of Labor and Industrial Relations, University of Illinois' Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, University of Kentucky's Center for Labor Education and Research, and University of Wisconsin's School for Workers.
National Labor College has partnerships with unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO and have established training programs, Students can participate in these training programs for credit toward there degree programs.
The college has facilities for union conferences, workshops, and retreats including meeting rooms, overnight accommodations, and dining facilities.
The National Labor College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
The college provides financial assistance including scholarships: Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship and the AETNA Healthcare Scholarships.
