Established in 1989 by Dr. John L. Penninger, the National Procedures Institute offers continuing medical
education opportunities addressing outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedural practices for primary care physicians. NPI instructors go beyond the mechanics of procedures, emphasizing the importance of tending to the whole patient. By advancing research, running continuing medical education conferences and offering teaching aids, the National Procedures Institute improves the quality of medical care system, helping physicians use comprehensive procedural services in their medical practice. Together the
American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians bought the National Procedures Institute in 2008.
The National Procedures Institute has trained more than 45,000 clinicians in its two decades of operation. The National Procedures Institute maintains a database of experienced preceptors ready to oversee the work of physicians who have recently learned procedures at NPI continuing medical education conferences. NPI faculty lecture around the country addressing a variety of medical topics and create custom presentations to present to residency training programs, nurse practitioner training and PA training groups, HMOs, state academies and other interested groups.
The
Advanced Aesthetics seminar addresses topics in cosmetic dermatology and medical aesthetics. Seminar participants are trained in patient consultations, image analysis, delivering skin care, performing non-surgical face lifts, using Photo Dynamic Therapy, injecting fillers, marketing the aesthetic practice, and more.

By attending the National Procedural Institute's conferences, clinicians can enhance their quality of care with new services, lower health care costs and expenses, and receive continuing education credit.
The NPI faculty consists of over 35 physicians representing diverse fields. In addition to their technical Expertise, the instructors are noted for their effective teaching styles.
National Procedural Institute's conference are kept small to promote interaction between instructor and participants and personal attention. On average, 25 to 30 people attend each course, with some courses as small as 15 participants. The conferences vary in length, from one to three days.
