The oldest school of its kind in the
United States, the New England School of Acupuncture was founded in 1975 by master acupuncturist James Tin Tao So, who practiced acupuncture and other forms of natural medicine in China, Hong Kong and the Philippines before immigrating to the United States. In addition to establishing the New England School of Acupuncture, he published textbooks collecting the decades of knowledge he had accumulated in the field working in Asia.
The curriculum at the New England School of Acupuncture has grown to include three-year master's degree programs, where students gain more than 1,200 hours of clinical instruction in small cohorts, learn about
Western sciences and biomedicine, participate in research projects, and undertake a year of clinical internships in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The New England School of Acupuncture also runs continuing
education programs where students and graduates can continue to hone their skills and expand their knowledge base. More than 1,100 skilled practitioners have graduated from New England School of Acupuncture programs, making an impact on their communities and in the fields of acupuncture and
oriental medicine.
New England School of Acupuncture faculty bring a wealth of experience to the classroom and clinic setting. Many received advanced training in the United States, Asia and Europe. Physicians and established researchers teach the Western medicine courses. Several New England School of Acupuncture faculty members publish and lecture extensively and are well known for their scholarship.
