The New Jersey Institute of Technology, located in the University Heights area of downtown Newark, New Jersey, is the state's science and technology university. Only 20 minutes from New York City by train, NJIT has served as the state's public, technological research institution since 1881.

NJIT has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top-tier national research university. The New Jersey technology school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Higher Education, and some individual areas of study carry their own additional accreditations.
