The
New York Voiceover
Academy is a
professional training school for people with an interest in doing voiceovers for radio, film and television. The New York Voiceover Academy is located in Merrick, New York. The school is known for its curriculum, which allows students to study at their own pace, perfect their art and cut their professional demos when they are ready.
No matter if the student is wanting to do audio books, cartoon voices,
medical narration, or a combination of all, the
education at the New York Voiceover Academy takes into account each person's ability and specialization areas. At the New York Voiceover Academy, students can expect to have the instructors provide the scripts read in class and the focus of what the student reads will be in their chosen area of specialty. Students also will conduct all of their recording in the live production studio at the New York Voiceover Academy. Instead of a one shot demo at the end of class, students keep the demos they've produced throughout their education at the New York Voiceover Academy and can create their final demo incorporating that performance.
Students have complete flexible control over their schedules. They can opt to study for one hour a week, once a week, twice a week or even two hours a week. Students choose the schedule that fits their personal needs and timetable.
Prospective students who wish to enroll at the New York Voiceover Academy should attend one of the workshops offered by the school to get an overview of the
business and what is expected of a voiceover professional. Booming, announcer voices aren't the only voices producers are currently seeking. Due to the proliferation of "real person" advertising, people with regular voices, as long as they've nailed the art, can be voice over professionals as well. Having a unique voice is not enough - voice over professionals are the dramatic artists and must serve the medium they've decided is their specialty.
Quick Facts:
Students do not pay an entire fee upfront. They pay as they go, for each class, on their own schedules.
The demo CD is the voice over professional's calling card. At the New York Voiceover Academy, graduates will produce their demo CD that they will be presenting to potential employers.
Voice over professionals can earn millions. However, many earn up to $20,000 for national television spots or $150-$500 for local cable spots.
