Newberry College is a liberal arts, coeducational college, affiliated with the Lutheran Church and founded in 1856. This charming 90 acre campus is located in Newberry, South Carolina, the safest city in the state. The college is one mile from local shopping areas and the city has a number of year-around recreational activities.

Newberry College offers a broad liberal arts curriculum, with a choice of study in a variety of disciplines, and a selection of professional and pre-professional studies. Newberry has 25 majors, 29 minors, and 36 areas of concentration as well as the Summerland Honors Program, Pre-seminary Track, and ROTC. The pre-professional programs include law, dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and veterinary medicine.

Newberry students also have the option of dual-degree programs, where students attend the college for three years and can transfer to Clemson, Duke, MUSC, Charleston School of Law, or Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.

Other organizations include CLAY, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Luther Student Movement, Metoka Galeda, Newberry College Dance Team-Platinum Divas, Student Ambassador Association, College Republicans, Ultimate Frisbee Club, International Student Organization, Student Government Association, Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Residence Hall Association, Sociology/Psychology Club, Art Society, P.E. Majors Club, and 12 other academic and music organizations.


  • Each year, Newberry College awards $9 million dollars in academic and music scholarships and athletic grants in financial aid.
