North Carolina Community College System

200 West Jones Street
Raleigh, NC 27603

The North Carolina community college System came about because of an awareness that a different kind of education was needed in the state of North Carolina. When the state shifted from an agricultural economy to an industrial economy, many individuals wanted to pursue higher education without committing to a four-year university; the North Carolina Community College System recognized this desire and was created to satisfy the wants and needs of North Carolina residents.

Since its inception, the North Carolina Community College System has grown and expanded, continually preparing its students for the challenges of today and tomorrow. In its first quarter century of service the north carolina community college System became the nation's third largest Community College network. The North Carolina Community College System has educated millions of students and employed thousands of faculty and staff members throughout its history. Now, approximately 800,000 students enroll annually in the 58 different community colleges that comprise the North Carolina Community College System.

The North Carolina Community College System continues to prepare North Carolina's world-class workforce for the 21st century. NCCCS opens doors to opportunity for students in convenient, flexible, and affordable ways. Collaboration with colleges and universities within North Carolina, partnerships with businesses and industries in the state, and services to communities and individuals enable the North Carolina Community College System to open the door to high-quality, accessible educational opportunities.
