North Carolina school of the Arts is an internationally-renowned arts
Conservatory, established by the North Carolina General Counsel Assembly in 1963. The
North Carolina School of the Arts was the first state-supported, residential school of its kind in this country. Now, NCSA is a part of the
University of North Carolina System.
North Carolina School of the Arts' mission is to train students from middle school to graduate school for a professional career in visual, film, television, and performing arts. With performance being an essential part of the school's training program, students, faculty, and guest artists perform over 400 public performances and screenings each year at the North Carolina School of the Arts facilities.
North Carolina School of the Arts confers
high school diplomas, college arts diplomas, the professional artist certificate as well as bachelor's and master's degrees through its five professional schools for dance, design and production, drama,
filmmaking, and music. Students seeking enrollment to the NCSA must audition or interview.

The school has a faculty of over 180. Over 140 are full-time and over 40 are part-time. The student-faculty ratio is 8 to 1.
The state of North Carolina pays the full cost of attendance for in-state students accepted to the high school program.
NCSA has eight residence halls including six for college students and two for high school students. On-campus student apartments are available and off-campus student apartments are within walking distance from the campus.
North Carolina School of Arts has 11 performance and screening spaces comparable to the finest in the performance industry.
The North Carolina School of the Arts students study with master residents in their respective fields, who have had prominent careers from the New York City Ballet to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Guest artists include movie director Spike Lee and actor Mandy Patinkin.
The school's alumni have performed in or were behind the scenes of Broadway shows, film, television, theater and members of symphony orchestras and opera and dance companies. Many have won or been nominated for prestigious awards in the entertainment industry.
