Puget Sound boat making techniques. The school strives to preserve this particular craft of wooden boat making by training future craftsmen in the vocation with techniques developed nearly 100 years ago. The school grants an Associate of Occupational Studies degree as well as diplomas in traditional large craft, contemporary wooden boat making, and traditional small craft. Students have the option of taking the
associate degree path or pursuing a six- or nine-month degree path in each area. Each program incorporates classes in woodworking, drafting, lofting, skill
construction, repair and restoration, and interiors.
While each program shares the same core classes, each is specifically focused on a particular craft of boat making. The traditional large craft program, either the diploma or the
Associate Degree, prepares students to work as entry-level boat makers in the specialized area of large vessel construction. Students pursuing this path may also option to concentrate in repair and restoration. Graduates of the small vessel program often go on to work for historical societies, maritime museums, and other organizations that operate small vessels. The contemporary wooden boat making degrees prepares students for employment with yacht manufacturers and yacht owners.
