In 1934, Northwest University was founded by the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. Sponsored by the Assemblies of God, this is a regionally accredited, co-educational Christian university. This Washington College's mission is to provide a "distinctly evangelical Christian environment, quality education to prepare students for service and leadership."

The campus started out on 35 acres of land in 1958. Since that time, the campus has grown to 56 acres, showing a spectacular view of Seattle and Lake Washington. The campus is about 10 miles from downtown Seattle. This makes the campus an ideal setting for recreation, study, and cultural events. The bustling city of Seattle offers students a chance to take a break from the books and many students enjoying visiting the Space Needle, Pike's Place Market, or the Experience Music Project in downtown Seattle.

Northwest University offers more than 50 academic programs for students. One educational goal for the university is to cultivate Christian character in its students, offering a wide selection in Biblical and Christian studies, from Biblical literature to Youth Ministries. Other programs include film studies, mathematics, and environmental science.

Graduate programs are also offered at Northwest University and can be completed in as little as two years, depending on the needs of working professionals. These programs include Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, M.A. in International Care and Community Development, M.A. in Missional Leadership, M.A. in Theology and Culture, Master of business Administration, Master of Education Degree, Professional Teacher certificate program, and Masters in Teaching.

Three times each week, students participate in chapel. But, there are also plenty of other opportunities for students to get involved in outreach with the Seattle community, such as visiting juvenile prisons or volunteering at local schools. The newest opportunity for Northwest University students is to visit camps, churches, and retreats on ministry teams that are committed to the spread the Gospel through drama and music.

Northwest University is a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Nicknamed the Eagles, the men's and women's sports teams include soccer, cross country, basketball and track and field. There is also a women's volleyball team.
