Northwestern Oklahoma State University is home approximately 1,500 students, offering Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in more than 40 programs. Popular programs at this Oklahoma school include business administration, nursing, law enforcement, psychology, and mass communications. For graduate students, master's degrees are offered in education and Counseling Psychology. The student-faculty ratio is approximately 17 to 1.

In Oklahoma, this is one of six state-assisted regional universities. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Northwestern Oklahoma state university has one of the lowest tuition costs in the state, but in the 2000 fall semester, 80 percent of all first-time freshman received financial aid.

Alva is a city of 6,000 residents in northwest Oklahoma and about 14 miles south of Kansas. The city is known for small-town charm, giving students a sense of security and an enjoyable setting for college life. Plus, many businesses recruit on campus for potential employees. Northwestern Oklahoma State University has some student services available at the Enid and Woodward campuses. The Enid campus has upper division and graduate courses. The Woodward campus allows students to take a variety of coursework.

Getting involved in campus activities is encouraged by faculty and staff. Most academic departments have student organizations. Campus clubs range from political to social, along with music and drama groups. Most students flock to the Student Center, which recently went under a $650,000 renovation. The Student Center features a game room, bookstore, and food court.

Student Services is available to assist all Northwestern Oklahoma State University students, including Office of Recruitment, Campus Police, Student Life, Counseling Services, Academic Success Center, Housing, Student Health Services, International Student Services, and the Wellness Center.
