Canada

Nova Scotia college of Art and Design has three campuses in the historic downtown district of Halifax, Nova Scotia. IT is one of canada's oldest cultural institution and maintains a respect for the old, while intertwining it in a relationship with the new. Students at NSCAD learn critical and creative thinking skills that prepare them for entering today's global marketplace.

NSCAD was founded in 1887 by Anna Leonowens, and has witnessed the leadership of such art luminaries as Arthur Lismer, Garry Neill Kennedy, and Paul Greenhalgh. Since then, faculty and alumni have made their marks on and been well-respected and well-known in the worlds of art, craft and design nationally and internationally.

All studio facilities at Nova Scotia college of Art and Design are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so that students are welcome to study and create at their own pace and on their own schedule. The first year is an experimental foundation year, allowing students to get their bearings and acclimate before gradually focusing on a specialty in art, craft, design or historical and critical studies. With this specialization in mind, they learn to balance academic issues with practical concerns in the studio and to explore the visual arts and give meaning to both individual and community life.

Close creative relationships among artists, designers, academics and the public are paramount at NSCAD. In the 21st century, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design continues to respect and build on its history, using new technologies in ways that both maintain and intensify traditional arts and crafts. NSCAD is a forerunner in the art world and takes on leadership responsibilities in the regional, national and international art communities.
