Ohio State University of Lima was founded in 1960 as a liberal arts institution. This Ohio University is located on approximately 560 acres about 80 miles south of Toledo. Many students come to Lima because they want to start at a smaller campus before making the leap to the main Columbus campus.

Baccalaureate programs at Lima range from business to Psychology. Associate offerings include Career and Technical Education and General Studies with a Concentration. Examples of graduate programs are the Master of Education in Early Childhood or Middle Childhood Education, Master of Arts in Education, or Master of Social Work. Ohio State University of Lima offers 10 bachelor's degree programs. Eight of these are four-year programs and two are baccalaureate completion programs. Some students elect to finish their degree at the Columbus campus and pick from more than 170 majors.

Lima is one of four regional campuses. There are approximately 1,200 students at Lima and about 100 graduate students on campus. There are over 95 full and part-time professors on campus. According to U.S. News and World Report in 2007, Ohio State University of Lima was ranked as one of the top 20 public universities in the nation and the number one public university in the state.

The Honors Program was created to enhance academic growth for OSU Lima students. Qualified students admitted into the program will be face greater challenges and opportunities at this level of study. By participating in the program, a student's degree will stand-out against other applicants, especially if a student is considering graduate school. Honors students can also earn financial awards, such as "Book Awards" of $100 for each Honors Course (maximum of three per course). There's also "Tuition Awards" of $1,000 (maximum of three per year) for gifted students who have taken two honors courses in a year.
