Ohio Wesleyan University was founded by Methodists in 1842 and continues its affiliation with the United Methodist Church, but welcomes students of all religious backgrounds. This Ohio School was first known as the "West Point of Missions" because a number of graduates traveled abroad and several served as Peace Corps volunteers.

There are more than 130 full-time faculty members who teach at Ohio Wesleyan University. Approximately 1,850 students from more than 40 states and countries attend the school. U.S. News and World Report has ranked Ohio Wesleyan University in the country's top 100 liberal arts colleges. Delaware (pop. 26,000) is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country and is about 20 minutes north of Columbus. The campus is located on about 200 acres.

The undergraduate curriculum provides students with several options. These include the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Music, and combined-degree programs in optometry, physical therapy, engineering, and medical technology with other institutions. There are more than 25,000 alumni worldwide. Within five years, more than half of graduating students pursue further study. Law school acceptance rates are around 95 percent, with pre-med students being accepted into medical school with approximately an 89 percent average.

There's more than 85 student organizations and clubs for students to participate in. The Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs is a student legislature and policy organization that is made up of students, administrators, and faculty. About 30 percent of the student body is involved in Greek life. The fraternity and sorority system at Ohio Wesleyan University began in 1853 and there are 19 houses on campus (there are no residential sorority houses). More than 90 percent of the student body lives in university housing. There are six residential halls. Also, there's Small Living Units, which are themed houses for 10 to 15 students each. Some of these are the Creative Arts House and the House of Thought.
