Oklahoma Baptist University


Founded in 1910, was founded on Christian teachings and principles, with an effort to start educational programs that would prepare students for leadership and service opportunities after graduation. This Oklahoma school concentrates on academic excellence, integrating faith in schoolwork, and engaging students in a diverse world.

At this liberal arts Christian school, enrollment is approximately 1,700 students from more than 35 states and 14 countries. There are more than 100 faculty members at Oklahoma Baptist University, who are all Evangelical Christians. The student to faculty ratio is about 12 to 1. Approximately 60 percent of the students who attend the university are from Oklahoma and about 64 percent are Baptist.

Oklahoma Baptist University is located in Shawnee, about 35 miles from Oklahoma City. The campus is situated on more than 180 acres with more than 30 major school buildings. Oklahoma Baptist University offers ten bachelor's degrees in more than 80 areas of study. The master's degree in business administration and master of science in nursing are available at the Oklahoma Baptist University Graduate School in Oklahoma City.

There are 17 varsity sports for students to participate in for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. These include men's and women's basketball, cross country, indoor track and field, golf, outdoor track and field, tennis, soccer, men's baseball, women's volleyball, and women's softball. The school has won several NAIA National Championships. More than 800 students participate in a variety of intramural sports.

Oklahoma Baptist University has an active student life population, with students participating in anything from student government to a variety of social clubs and organizations. Many students are involved in the Oklahoma Campus Ministry, which is a large part of campus life. Students can participate in mission activities at the Avery T. Willis Center for Global Outreach. The center coordinates global mission trips, with several students participating.
