Onondaga Community College offers two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. An advantage of the
SUNY system is that credits are easily transferable between campuses for students who want to continue their education beyond the community college level. Onondaga Community College also offers
certificate programs that can generally be completed in one year. Onondaga Community College is at the forefront of efforts to meet the accelerating pace of technological developments and requirements of continuing educational opportunity for all.
The Community Education programs at this SUNY include classes for both personal enrichment and professional development. They also offer special programs for children and teens, small businesses and school districts. Community members take advantage of the Olympic size pool both through the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim and recreational swimming programs.

In 1962, Onondaga Community College opened its doors to 500 entering freshmen at Midtown Plaza in the urban center of Syracuse, New York. Outgrowing the city center location, the SUNY school moved to its present site in 1973.
