The Pacific Institute of Reflexology was founded in 1982 to train students in the Healing Arts of hand, foot and ear reflexology. Part of the mission of the Pacific Institute and its founder, Chris Shipley, is to promote reflexology and encourage a greater number of people to embrace the technique. The goal of the educational program at the Pacific Institute of Reflexology is to help students develop their own intuitive and unique reflexology technique.

Courses at the Pacific Institute of Reflexology include basic holistic foot reflexology, advanced reflexology professional skills, basic holistic hand reflexology and basic holistic ear reflexology. Courses at the Pacific Institute are offered on both evenings and weekends in order to accommodate a variety of student schedules. The basic holistic foot reflexology class takes 70 hours to complete, and includes 20 hours of in-class instruction, 10 hours of study at home and a 40-hour practicum. Topics include the history of reflexology as well as hands-on instruction. This course, combined with the advanced reflexology professional skills class, prepares students to take and pass the professional exam administered by the Reflexology Association of British Columbia. The advanced reflexology course takes 60 hours to complete, with 20 hours of instruction, 20 hours of homework and 20 practical hours.

Enrollment in most classes at the Pacific Institute of Reflexology is limited to 14 students. This ensures a low student-to-teacher ratio and guarantees that all students receive individualized attention from their instructors. All students at the Pacific Institute of Reflexology have access to the school's library of books, newsletters and other literature on all types of complementary medicine (including reflexology). Massage therapists may be able to receive continuing education credit for some courses at the Pacific Institute of Reflexology. The school also offers training videos such as "Foot Reflexology: A Step-by-Step Guide" for those who are interested in learning about reflexology but are unable to attend classes on campus.
