Pellissippi State Technical Community College
10915 Hardin Valley Road
Knoxville, TN 37933-0990
Before it became Pellissippi State Technical
community college, this Tennessee college was known as the State Technical Institute at Knoxville and was established in September of 1974. Originally, the school was meant to serve as an offshoot of the Knoxville State Regional Vocational-
technical school on Division Street, but it soon became recommended -- both by the director of the school and community members -- that the school be established as a two-year, college-level technical training school. Instead of the post-secondary non-degree vocational programs it was intended for, this Tennessee college went on to offer customized training programs that would earn students associate degree and/or certificates in their fields.
From there on the school continued to grow, moving its main campus to a 144-acre site off of Pellissippi Parkway and acquiring a building complex worth approximately $25 million. Additional programs, such as computer training, university parallel, and community programs were gradually added until Pellissippi State Technical
Community College became the two-year technical learning institution that it is today. Students can choose to study anything from e-commerce, hospitality, paralegal studies, and computer accounting, to pre-
nursing, art, English, interior design technology, and electrical
engineering technology.
