The (PMI), trains students as professional massage therapists. The program consists of more than 700 hours of practical and theoretical training in the art of
massage therapy. Myotherapy Institute students have the opportunity to practice hands-on in the school's own clinic or at various off-site locations. This real-world experience will prepare PMI students for a career in this growing field. The Pennsylvania Myotherapy Institute, located less than one hour south of Harrisburg, also offers flexible course schedules, and students can attend classes during the day or at night. And because the program is part-time (between 12 to 16 hours of in-class and clinic time per week), it's easy for students to balance work, family and other responsibilities. After completing the full program (which consists of three 18-week semesters) Pennsylvania Myotherapy Institute students are prepared to take the National Certification Board for
Therapeutic Massage and
bodywork (NCTMB) certification exam.
Classes at Pennsylvania Myotherapy Institute include integrated anatomy,
business and ethics, therapeutic massage and massage and pathology. The latter course looks at how different diseases can affect massage clients and teaches students how to decide if massage is an appropriate treatment. Pennsylvania Myotherapy Institute offers advanced training in such areas as neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, hot stone therapy, pregnancy massage, massage for the cancer patient. Clinic and externship locations may include chiropractic offices, health clubs, spas, athletic events, professional offices and retirement homes. In addition to massage techniques, PMI students study basic wellness, spirituality, hydrotherapy, the history of massage,
health care terminology and how to communicate with other medical professionals.
