The Phoenix School of Massage, which was founded in 1986, is one of the oldest and longest-running
massage therapy schools in Texas. Its mission is to instruct students in the art of holistic
massage therapy, and since it was established more than two decades ago, The Phoenix School of Massage has trained numerous people in the field of
Therapeutic Massage.
The Phoenix School of Massage offers a 500-hour course leading to a license to practice
massage therapy in the state of Texas. A continuing education program is also offered. Students at the Phoenix School of Massage learn Swedish massage techniques from instructor Pehr Henry Ling. PSM students also receive instruction in subjects such as sports acupressure, shiatsu, pregnancy massage, human anatomy and physiology,
business and ethics, CPR and hot stone therapy. All instructors at the Phoenix School of Massage are also holistic practitioners, and some have additional training as chiropractors, acupuncturists and nutritionists. This allows students to gain an in-depth perspective on massage and other related sciences. At the Phoenix School of Massage, students learn in a fun and holistic environment by making use of methods such as sightless massage, kinesthetic recognition, palpatory skills and muscle isolation. Empowering and de-stressing the student massage therapist is an important part of the educational program, and the students begin their training by making themselves the initial client. PSM students also receive regular massage while giving massage to classmates.
Holistic massage, a technique that was developed at the Phoenix School of Massage, is an important part of the school's education program. In holistic massage, a massage plan is developed that is carefully tailored to the client's needs. The technique has been featured in major journals of massage and bodywork including "The Encyclopedia of Bodywork." Massage body mechanics, another technique developed at the Phoenix School of Massage, is featured in "
massage therapy: Principles and Practice," a leading massage therapy text.
