The Photon School of Welding, which opened in April 2007, is a
private institution that trains students in structural steel and pipe welding methods. Its mission is to provide all Photon students with comprehensive and affordable training in welding. The Photon campus is located on the
Northwest side of Indianapolis, Ind., in a 6,000-square-foot state-of-the-
art facility. The goal of the Photon School of Welding is to train a new generation of skilled welders. Continued development and infrastructure needs have created a consistent demand for people trained in this area, and this combined with a shrinking talent pool is predicted to create a significant need for certified welders in the near future.
Students at the Photon School of Welding learn basic and specialty welding techniques from enthusiastic instructors with a wealth of professional experience. National standards and qualification procedures form the basis of training at the school. Demonstration, classroom work and repetition are all part of the learning process at the Photon School of Welding, as is instruction in theories of welding, math, blueprint reading and safety procedures. Instruction is hands-on, and both destructive and non-destructive methods are frequently used to test and evaluate the quality of student welds. The Photon School of Welding's comprehensive curriculum exceeds the standards set the
American Welding Society (AWS). Each student is tested at various milestone points in the program, and this helps to ensure that all Photon School of Welding students are prepared to pass
certification testing when they complete their studies.
Two core programs are offered at The Photon School of Welding: structural plate welding and high pressure welding. Each program requires more than 300 hours of course work, including a class in foundation skills that requires 30 to 90 hours of instruction and testing. Specialized training and
Advanced courses are also offered at Photon, as well as customized training for students who have unique development or scheduling needs. The Photon School of Welding also works with employers to develop strong training programs for employees.
