Piedmont School of Professional Massage, a private vocational and technical school providing training in massage and bodywork to a range of students that was established in January 1995 by Alan Coyne and Jim Weiler. The goal of the school is to provide students with the theoretical, practical and hands-on experience they need to become successful massage therapists. Piedmont School of Professional Massage teaches essential massage techniques and emphasizes a holistic concept of the relationship between the body and the mind.

Piedmont School of Professional Massage is located in a modern office facility not far from Washington D.C. Piedmont students have access to equipment such as massage tables, chairs and oils, anatomical models and skeletons, wall charts, reference books and video equipment. Jim Weiler is the director of the school and a certified massage therapist. He has nearly two decades of professional experience and is the primary instructor for all courses at Piedmont School of Professional Massage.

Classes at Piedmont are hands-on and interactive and students receive individualized attention from their instructors. All teachers of Piedmont School of Professional Massage are alumni and have at least two years of professional experience. Classes at Piedmont School of Professional Massage begin twice every year. Fall classes run from September through June and spring classes begin in April and run through December. Day and evening schedules are also available. Subjects covered during training include: orientation and history of the massage profession, professional and legal issues, ethics, hygiene, HIV/AIDS and hydrotherapy.

Students at Piedmont School of Professional Massage also participate in supervised community events that provide real-world experience. These events give Piedmont students the opportunity to receive feedback from the general public on their massage techniques and also help to create a positive perception of the massage therapy profession. In addition to basic training in massage techniques, Piedmont School of Professional Massage also provides employment assistance and advice. A file is kept of notices of available employment positions sent to the school, and job seeker services are available to all graduates of the school. The school also offers students the chance earn money by working at the Piedmont Massage Clinic after they have completed the first 100 hours of their training.
