community college offers two-year degree programs and certificate programs that prepare graduates for the workforce or for a successful transfer to a four-year college or university for the completion of a bachelor's degree.
Students with exceptional academic records will be given the opportunity to join the school's Honors Program. Honors Program graduates leave campus with an Honors distinction on their diploma and gain access to Honors-only courses and seminars. All students are encouraged to supplement their in-class studies with service learning activities. Piedmont Virginia holds strong ties with the surrounding community, giving students the opportunity to volunteer or intern with local companies before heading off into the real world.
In addition to servicing transfer and
liberal arts students, Piedmont Virginia Community College maintains strong ties with the local workforce as well. The school is a leading provider of workforce training and education in the Piedmont region, providing career readiness certificates in everything from computer operations to phlebotomy.
The Piedmont Virginia Community College campus is home to a wide array of intellectual and creative activity. Each year the school brings regionally and occasionally nationally recognized speakers to campus. The V. Earl Dickinson gallery hosts art exhibits from students and visiting artists while the building's main stage hosts student theatrical, musical, and dance performances throughout the year. Piedmont Virginia Community College also sponsors a number of cultural and social activities for students. Annual events include a dance contest, a Black History Month celebration, and a campus-wide job fair.
Student support services offered at Piedmont Virginia Community College include academic advising, personal counseling, financial aid counseling, disability support services, tutoring, computer labs, transfer assistance, assessment testing, and mentoring all available free of charge to enrollees. For graduating students, the school provides career counseling, resume-writing workshops, job search support, interview preparation classes, and assistance preparing a work-related portfolio.
