Founded in 1974, Pierpont Community & Technical College is a comprehensive, two-year community college providing a career-focused education. Pierpont Community & Technical College is a division of Fairmont State University, and students at Pierpont have access to FSU's facilities and services. Pierpont Community & Technical College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Pierpont Community & Technical College offers more than 50 associate degree programs through its four schools: the School of Academic Studies; the School of business, Aviation and Technology; the School of Health Careers; and the School of Human Services. Pierpont also offers a range of certificate, non-credit, and workforce development programs.

Fairmont State University is an NCAA Division II school, and students at Pierpont Community & Technical College can compete for the FSU Falcons in seven men's sports and seven women's sports. Students also have access to more than 85 student organizations, including intramural sports, student publications, honor societies, and Greek life.
