Point Loma Nazarene University is a private
Christian college located in the Point Loma area of San Diego, Calif. Over 105 years old, Point Loma University was founded Phineas F. Bresee in Pasadena. The college moved to its current Point Loma location in 1973. The Point Loma location is the undergraduate campus and the school has four other locations in Arcadia, Bakersfield, Inland Empire and the Mission Valley area of San Diego.
Point Loma University offers over 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 2,000 students. A sampling of the degree programs include art and design, art

Graphic Design, biology, chemistry, media communication, theatre, child development, dietetics, nutrition and food, history, political science and social science.
The mission of Point Loma University is to "provide higher education in a vital
Christian community," and true to that commitment, offers on-campus housing in 8 residence halls. Students may also choose to live off campus in the greater San Diego area.
Point Loma Nazarene University encourages learning through critical thinking and its students to be knowledgeable about the global community. Nearly 10 percent of its students
study abroad for a period. Over 25 percent of the 2007 graduating class participated in an international study experience in 40 different countries. The university also offers scholarships to students who wish to study abroad.
PLNU is also home to ten centers and institutes to help broaden student knowledge, including the Center for Justice and Reconciliation, Center for Pastoral Leadership, the Institute of Politics and Public Service and the
Wesleyan Center for 21st-century studies.

In 2008, the women's track and field team won the Golden State Athletic Championship for the second straight year. The men won second place.
In 2008, Point Loma Nazarene University announced plans to build a 450-kilowatt solar energy system to power the main campus at Point Loma. The solar system will be the first large commercial solar system for a San Diego university.
