Washington D.C.'s Potomac Massage Training Institute has been providing professional training in massage therapy to students in the District of Columbia, Va. and Md. for more than three decades. Potomac is a pioneer in massage therapy education and instruction, and many of its graduates have served as leaders in the massage therapy community, having held positions in organizations such as the American massage therapy Association and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

Thousands of students have completed their massage therapy training at Potomac Massage Training Institute since it was established in 1976. Potomac's 600-hour professional training program covers Swedish massage and deep tissue techniques. Soft-tissue modalities, movement modalities and energy modalities are also covered. Potomac Institute students typically attend two, three and a half hour classes each week, one academic and the other practical. Clinics, fieldwork and weekend courses are also required. Graduates of PMTI will have completed the educational requirements for certification in the District of Columbia, Md. and Va.

Potomac Massage Training Institute's campus features up-to-date facilities and equipment. Its academic classrooms and lecture hall contain sound systems, projectors, monitors, full-scale skeletons and bone replicas and equipment for anatomical study. The school's three practical classrooms feature massage tables, anatomy charts, mirrors and full-scale skeletons. There is also a clinic room and a break room with a kitchen and library. PMTI offers its alumni a wide range of services including career assistance, referrals and job directory, business skills seminars and skills enhancement workshops. Potomac Massage Training Institute is also committed to contributing to national research on massage therapy. Potomac Institute is a founding member of Massage Therapy Research Consortium and has presented at national conferences on massage research.
