Being
business-minded doesn't mean that you can't also be interested in sustainability, at least not at Presidio School of Management. This
business school offers M.B.A. degrees and executive training programs to individuals who are interested in building all types of capital - economic, environmental and human. Presidio School of Management has its roots in several other unique educational initiatives (including the now-defunct World College West), and has been offering M.B.A. degrees since 2003.
Presidio School of Management's M.B.A. degree in sustainable management teaches students how to lead companies, countries or communities in a way that enhances the well-being of both current and future generations. The M.B.A. degree is primarily a distance-learning program. However, students spend four days every semester at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, which is a time for both in-depth instruction and face-to-face relationship building with other students. During the remainder of the semester, students at Presidio School of Management connect and learn through
online discussions, team assignments, conference calls and projects with a range of organizations and companies, including Wal-Mart, the EPA and Williams Sonoma. Presidio's faculty includes leaders in both academics and
business who are well-equipped to teach students how to implement sustainable ideas in the real world.
The Presidio School of Management M.B.A. program features 16 courses divided into four separate strands: people, financial capital, markets and sustainability. Throughout the program, students will learn about subjects ranging from strategic management and emotional intelligence to accounting and ecological economics. Presidio School of Management students will also study sustainable products and services and learn how to develop effective and sustainable
business practices. Every Presidio student is required to complete a capstone project, the Integrative Capstone Venture Plan, where they create a venture plan to launch a sustainable business concept. All of these experiences mean that graduates of Presidio School of Management leave school with a wealth of practical experience and knowledge that they can use to enter the workforce as leaders in sustainable business.
