When Rend Lake College was first founded over 50 years ago, it was known as Mt. Vernon
community college and had a little over 200 day and evening students enrolled. In the decades since, Rend Lake College has only continued to grow and expand in its course offerings, facilities, and enrollment. Originally located on the grounds of a local
high school, Rend Lake College now boasts a 350-acre main campus in Ina, and campuses in Mt. Vernon and Pinckneyville. Enrollment at the Illinois
Community College has also grown to nearly 3,000 students.
Programs at Rend Lake College have also developed to include a wide array of subjects and professional disciplines. Today they range from vocational certificate programs in areas such as welding, criminal justice, emergency medical care, surgical technology, and medical transcription, to associate degree programs in fields like architecture,
business, graphic design, medical laboratory technology, and pharmacy. The community college also boasts pre-professional programs in dentistry, medicine, and veterinary medicine.

automotive Club, Thespians Club, Filibusters Film Club,
Culinary Arts Club, and Musical Notes Society.
At this Illinois community college the following extracurricular athletics are offered: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, tennis, baseball, softball, wrestling, cheerleading, women's track and field, and volleyball.
Rend Lake College's Aquatics Center features a swimming pool and whirlpool.
Rend Lake College offers a variety of adult education, college prepatory, and non-credit courses to members of the community.
