Founded in 1960, Richard Bland College is a branch of the College of William and Mary and the only state-supported junior College in Virginia. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, RBC prepare students for expanded career opportunities or transfer to a four-year college.

Students at Richard Bland College can pursue an associate degree in the arts and sciences in a wide range of subjects including business, visual arts, science, and philosophy. Richard Bland College also offers a limited number of distance education courses, and students can earn up to three credits for international travel.

As of 2008, Richard Bland College offers residence halls for its students. In addition, students can participate in a variety of activities on campus including performance groups, academic clubs, a student Ambassador program, and community service.
