Rider University is a private college with two campuses in New Jersey. The two campuses encompass 280 acres in Lawrenceville and Princeton. The school has a long and rich history dating back to 1865, with Andrew Jackson Rider as its first president.

Established as the Trenton business College at a time after the Civil War when Trenton, New Jersey was becoming an important eastern city, the school changed its name to Rider business College in 1897. By 1901, the school had merged with Stewart business college and changed its name to the Rider-Moore and Stewart School of business. The school eventually expanded to offer degrees in teaching and now is also a liberal arts college. The Westminster Choir College is also now a part of Rider University.

Its final incarnations first to Rider College and then to Rider University occurred 73 years apart when the school changed its name for the last time in 1993. Rider University's Lawrenceville campus has been located in Lawrenceville Township since 1956.

Rider has four academic colleges: the college of business administration; the college of liberal arts, education and sciences; the college of continuing education and Westminster Choir College, offering over 60 undergraduate programs and over 15 graduate programs.

Students can choose from a wide variety of majors, which include accounting, biochemistry, economics, education, English, ethics, fine arts, international business, journalism and social work.

Rider University has over 6,000 students on both campuses. Students can choose to live at one of the 12 residence halls or six Greek houses on the Lawrenceville campus or one of three residence halls on the Princeton campus. Freshmen and sophomores attending Westminster Choir College are required to live on campus the first two years and housing is guaranteed during that time.
