Ripon College has achieved national recognition for its excellence as an undergraduate school of the
liberal arts and sciences. This independent, four-year residential
Wisconsin college is located in the historically rich community of Ripon, Wisconsin, about 80 miles from both Madison and Milwaukee. Ripon College's undergraduates, 90 percent of whom live on campus, represent over a dozen countries and more than 30 states. Approximately 1,000 students are currently enrolled and four-year housing is guaranteed.
Ripon College offers more than 30 majors and nearly 40 minors. Over 95 percent of its faculty members possess the highest possible degree in their fields. Professors teach in every class and lab, providing their students with an exceptional level of individual communication. The average number of students in a Ripon College class is 20 and over 60 percent of classes are even smaller, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1.
Ripon College has a history of academic distinction. In 1953, the
Wisconsin College was granted a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious honor society for undergraduates who have achieved excellence in the
liberal arts and sciences. Ripon College also hosted the start of the National Forensics League, a nationwide organization for
high school speech and debate, with the first national speech competition held at the Wisconsin college in 1931. Pi Kappa Delta, now the oldest nationwide society for speech and debate on the college level, began at Ripon College in 1911. Pi Kappa Delta's Hall of Fame resides on the campus. Ripon College's own speech and debate team has achieved national ranking.
Ripon College's 250-acre campus is home to over 70 organizations and clubs. Additionally, Ripon College has 20 NCAA Division III teams and 14 intramural sports. The campus includes 25 buildings, 10 of which can be found on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wisconsin college offers internships, study abroad, summer research programs and opportunities within the ROTC. Financial aid is granted through loans, scholarships and work-study programs, and can be based on need, merit or both. Financial awards based on merit grant at least $1,000 and can grant as much as full annual tuition. Ripon College provides financial aid to over 90 percent of its undergraduates.
