U.S. News & World Report names Roberts Wesleyan College one of its Best Value Colleges. Roberts Wesleyan College is a co-educational, independent liberal arts-minded college offering students an education in the Christian tradition. Located in Rochester, New York, the school was founded in 1866 by Benjamin Titus Roberts, a leader for his time in social justice for minorities and women. After being expelled from the Methodist Episcopal Church, Roberts became the first bishop of the Free Methodist Church and founded the college, then named Chili Seminary.

In 1885, the name of the school was changed to honor an early benefactor. In 1921, the "advanced department" was added that offered junior college level courses. The name Roberts was reinserted when the school was renamed Roberts Junior College in 1945. In 1949, the name Wesleyan was added to designate its affiliation with the Free Methodist Church.
