Minnesota, Saint John's University is a Catholic school for men, noted for its singular and mutually beneficial partnership with the
College of Saint Benedict, a neighboring school for women. These two Minnesota universities of higher learning are rooted in the Catholic, Benedictine traditions, and run the same undergraduate academic program. Both student bodies share classes on both school campuses. At the same time, each school remains an individual college. Saint John's University has its own athletic programs, dormitories, and campus. In addition to its undergraduate programs in the
liberal arts, SJU conducts graduate programs in theological studies.
SJU's undergraduate academic program, shared with CSB, has five divisions: natural sciences, social sciences, fine arts, humanities, and interdisciplinary and pre-professional programs. Within these divisions, students can choose from over 40 majors within over 60 areas of study. Bachelor of arts degrees are conferred, as well as a bachelor of science in
nursing. There are nearly 300 full-time faculty members, the vast majority of which hold terminal degrees in their areas of
Expertise. There are also more than 60 faculty members working part-time. Members of the faculty teach every class. There is a student-to-faculty ratio of 13-to-1, while the average population of a classroom is 21 students. In addition, SJU offers, in partnership with CSB, well over a dozen study abroad programs that last for the duration of a whole semester. SJU conducts these programs in over a dozen countries. These include, among others, Ireland, Italy, South Africa, Spain, France, England, Guatemala and Greece. Many international study programs of shorter duration are also offered. More than half of Saint John's University's students make use of the
Minnesota university's study abroad programs.
Saint John's University's central Minnesota campus is nestled within more than 3,000 acres of beautiful forest property that includes lakes and prairies. The Minnesota university's campus is located a half-dozen miles from the College of Saint Benedict's. SJU is also just a short drive from the urban area of St. Cloud. Between the two colleges there are more than 60 organizations and clubs, including intramural sports and club sports. Saint John's University and College of Saint Benedict also boast a number of varsity teams.
